Winds in the Bend
I'Onissimio! Woodwind Concert, March 24, 2002

Members of the I'Onissimo! Wind EnsembleMt. Pleasant, SC - Blues, jazz and classical music will be performed by the members of the I’Onissimo! Woodwind Ensemble on Palm Sunday, March 24th., 2002 at 4pm.  The free concert will be held on Prescient Street in I’On Village, Mt. Pleasant, SC.   The public is welcome.

In case of rain, the concert will be held at O’Brion’s Pub on I’On Square.

Among those performing will be Peggy Orange, flute; Stacy Hammond, flute; Jack Hayes, bass clarinet; Faye Fisher, Keyboard; and appearing with I’Onissimo! for the first time, Darrin (Sparky) Brooks, on harmonica.  Selections on the program will include a hymn setting of Ode to Joy by Ludwig Van Beethoven; Bill Bailey Won’t You Please Come Home a Dixieland jazz piece and a selection of blues tunes.  Some surprise guest performers are anticipated.

Prescient street will be closed to vehicular traffic for the concert.  The porch of Robert and Carol Allen, I’On’s senior residents will become the stage for the musicians.  The Prescient Street bend is an inch by inch copy of the bend in historic Church Street in downtown Charleston.  Its tight building spacing will contain and focus the sound of the acoustic presentation.  Families are encouraged to bring their children.

Bend in Prescient Street, I'On Village, Mt. Pleasant, SC.  The musicians will perform on the porch on the left side of the image.  The low brick wall in front has a bronze plaque commemorating the first families to build homes in I'On.  The street in front will be blocked off and available for audience seating.  You are welcome to bring picnics.  Please bring your own folding chairs and spares for friends if you have them.

The bend in Church Street, Charleston, SC, Note the lamppost in this immage, just behind the lady walking.  The lampposts in both images are in exactly the same position relative to the bend.  The brick wall above on Prescient echos the postion of the stone bollards on Church.

The audience is encouraged to bring folding chairs for seating. Children are welcome.   The I’Onissimo! Brass will announce the eminent start of the music with bugle calls sounded from points around the community.  This concert is sponsored by Mt. Pleasant Chick-fil-Aâ and the Dickerson family, who have paid the publicity and printing costs for the Spring 2002 I'Onissimo Season.

I’Onissimo! is the Chamber Music Ensemble of I’On Village.  The Spring series will continues with a brass concert on April 14 and a May 26 Season Finale.  It is supported in part by the I’On Trust, a non-profit community foundation dedicated to the improvement of cultural and civic life in the East Cooper area.

Note on Parking - Visitors to I'On may wish to park on I'On Square or in the Parking area for the I'On Pool.  It is a short walk to Prescient Street.  Directional signs to the concert site will be posted.  You may park on the street in I'On pointed in the direction of traffic provided no other vehicle is parked opposite yours unless otherwise indicated.
