Charleston Folk Dance – Feb 8

I’Onians interested in bringing Contra dancing to I’On are invited to join their neighbors on a field trip to Charleston Folk’s Friday, February 8th. Dance at Gage Hall on Archdale Street in Downtown Charleston.  Dance Master Robert Anderson will hold a special half hour session to help us learn how to have fun dancing traditional dances such as the Spanish Waltz, Virginia Reel and Mazurka beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Charleston Folk’s regular dance will begin after our session.  Most of these dances involve large groups of people and are similar to square dancing in that they circulate people around the room, changing partners frequently.  It’s good exercise and lots of fun, but not technically complex.   A modest donation to defray the cost of music is requested by Charleston Folk.  Maps to the downtown location will be handed out before we leave.

We’ll leave from by carpool caravan from I’On Square at 7:15 pm.  Some participants plan to have dinner together at O’Brions before heading downtown.  The I’On Club has expressed an interest in working with I’Onissimo! and the I'On Trust on some dances in I’On to be held at the Creek Club in the future.  Members of Charleston Folk have offered to help with this effort.  The first step is building up a group of I'Onians who are comfortable doing some of the dances.
