and directions to this concert
Brass, woodwind, string and bagpipe music will echo across the waters of Eastlake when I'Onissimo!, the chamber music ensemble of I'On Village, celebrates the conclusion of its premier season. The concert will be held on the porch of the Warner/Sherman family on Sunday, May 27th. at 3:00 p.m. at 175 East Shipyard Road in I'On Village in Mt. Pleasant. The Concert is part of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival and is free and open to the public. A blanket or folding chair for lawn seating under the oaks is recommended. Children are welcome.
The concert will be announced with the traditional bugle calls from Eastlake Boathouse sounded by Dr. Tom Kindel and Brian Osborne. The I'Onissimo! Strings will begin the concert with music by Boccorini, Scott Joplin and selections from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein. The I'Onissimo! Winds will follow with Melody from Album for the Young, Op. 68 by Robert Schumann; A March by Johann Sebastian Bach and 2 Oscar and Hammerstein numbers among other selections.
The
I'Onissimo! Brass Quintet will begin their program with the premier
of a new composition for Brass Quintet composed by Dr. Tom Kindel
with the assistance of Julia Hamilton, The Fanfare for I'On Village.
The brass will continue with patriotic music in honor of our veterans
and the Memorial Day weekend including the Liberty Bell March by John
Phillip Sousa.
A Bagpiper from the Charleston Police Pipes and Drums will play traditional military music while the brass musicians move into their positions around the lake for the concert's final selection, a performance of Echo Taps in honor of America's veterans. Echo Taps is the historic military bugle call played as an echo across a battlefield. It is planned to capitalize on the remarkable resonate qualities of the deep lake basin and its surrounding vertical architecture which produce what I'Onissimo! musicians call, "The Eastlake Effect."
During
the Concert, Revolutionary War reenactors Mr. & Mrs. Joe
McDevitt will conduct a living history demonstration.
This concert is sponsored by Simonini Builders, who will also be
providing cold drinks and insulating coozies to the audience.
I'Onissimo! is supported by the I'On Trust, a non profit community
foundation dedicated to enhancing civic and cultural life in the East
Cooper area..
