I'Onissimo! Finale & Veteran's Tribute May 2002

Image of Mt. Pleasant Amphitheater & Westlake during May 26, 2002 I'Onissimo Finale. The May 27, 2002 Finale and Veteran's Tribute drew an audience of over 350 people.  We enjoyed wonderful music and perfect weather.  The concert closed with a three fold performance of Echo Taps as a tribute to our nation's veterans.  The concert was part of Piccolo Spoleto.

The large American Flag behind the musicians was donated by Ft. Sumter and the Naitonal Park service.  It is a retired storm flag from Ft. Sumter, once flown at the entrance of Charleston Harbor.  Boy Scout Troop 20 raised the big flag.

Persons sitting on the hillside found picnic seating with blankets and pillows works better than folding chairs.  Folding chairs work better at the top of the hill, beneath the trees  A few people find sitting in their small boats bobbing on the lake to be the best seating for an I'Onissimo! Concert.

Children at the concert were given cards to have autographed by the Veterans present.  When their cards were full, Andrew Nelson, in his full 1943 Navy Uniform pinned American Flag pins on the kids.

Finale Sponsor Simonini Builders provided cold drinks for the audience.  This was the second year that Simonini sponsored the I'Onissimio! Finale.

Detailed information and the full program on this concert can be found on the 2002 Finale Page.

Bagpiper at I'Onissimo ConcertBagpiper Erik Page of the Charleston Police Pipe and drums standing on the Lafayette Bridge plays Amazing Grace immediately before the playing of Echo Taps.  While most I'Onissimo musicians are unpaid volunteers, generous donations by the audience provided more than enough to "pay the piper."

I'Onissimo! is supported in part by the I'On Trust, a non-profit community foundation dedicated to enhancing the quality of cultural and civic life in the East Cooper area.
