I’Onissimo Orchestral Reading Feb. 9

All interested orchestral musicians are invited to an open reading with I’Onissimo under the baton of Maestro Dennis Burk on Sunday, February 9 at 2:00 pm.  The reading will be held at 15 Faye Lane on Westlake in I’On Village, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.  The musicians will read and perform orchestral music in the manner of a group of people reading a Shakespeare play, not a rehearsal or polished performance, but a participatory exploration of great music.  The public is welcome to listen.

To get notices on upcoming I’Onissimo! events and more details check the web at www.awod.com/hamilton/ or call (843) 849-8481.

Dennis Burkh, former conductor of the Janacek Philharmonic (Ostravia) and General Music Director of the U.S. Regional Opera Company of Michigan will direct the reading.   Mr. Burkh has been a distinguished professor of conducting at two universities and served as assistant to Maestro Antonino Votto of La Scala Opera of Milan.

Dennis BurkhMr. Burkh’s (image, right) conducting has been praised by reviewers around the world.  The London Times wrote, "(V)itality was maintained and there was a painstaking attention to detail in Mr. Burkh’s direction which produced a performance in which musicianship was never in doubt."  "Burkh comes from the grand school of conducting." wrote Brno of Czechoslovakia.  Mr. Burkh is a now a resident of Dunes West in Mt. Pleasant and will be working with I’Onissimo! as a musical development consultant.

Musicians who can sight read and are not already members of I’Onissimo!, from within and outside I’On are welcome to participate with the group.  Four wonderful pieces of music have been selected for the reading: Abu Nassan Overture by Weber; Serenade STG.Op62/1 by Volkmann; La Fiera de Venezia by Salieri; and Suite for String Orchestra by Janacek.  Amateurs are welcome.

If you do wish to come and listen, please bring a folding chair that won’t scrape the floor.  The use of the house has been donated by Tanis Construction.

I’Onissimo! is the Chamber Music Ensemble of I’On Village and welcomes amateur musicians from in and outside the Mt. Pleasant, SC community.   It is supported by the I’On Trust, a non profit community foundation dedicated to the improvement of civic and cultural life in the East Cooper area.
